The Chesapeake Civic Chorus Member Highlights

Geraldine Boone * Conductor
The Chorus was founded by Geraldine T. Boone, who recently retired from teaching Music Theory, Counterpoint and serving as Chair of the Theory Department at Norfolk State University. She is a former Coordinator of the Master of Music program at Norfolk State University. Mrs. Boone has served on numerous national, state, and local boards promoting the music and the arts.
Geraldine is a Chesapeake native, graduated from Virginia State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Vocal Music Education and Piano Performance. She earned a Master’s degree in Music Theory from the prestigious Eastman School of Music in Rochester New York. She is also the founder of Norfolk’s Park Place Boys’ Choir, now called the Boys Choir of Hampton Roads and has served as Accompanist since its inception. Mrs. Boone currently serves as Executive Director of the Chesapeake Civic Chorus.

Doris S. Peterkin
Doris has been a chorus member singing second alto for 22 years. Doris is a retired Personnel Analyst for the City of Portsmouth's Department of Behavioral Healthcare Services. She enjoys singing with the Chorus and the friendships established with the fellow singers.
Marianne Rice
Marianne is an accomplished singer who has served on the Benedict College Choir and the Hallelujah Singers. She has a Masters in Music (Voice) from Norfolk State University and currently serves as the Booking & Managing Director for Dr. Marlena Smalls & The Hallelujah Singers. She has been a member of the Chesapeake Civic Chorus since 2007.


Mildred Banks
It is Mildred's love of music and the cherished fellowship of the members that brings her back to the Chesapeake Civic Chorus. She also sings with the Saint Mary's Gospel Choir.
